Brett Votava has practiced exclusively on injury and wrongful death cases since graduating near the top of his class from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law in 2001. He initially worked as an attorney for a global law firm, where he learned how big companies and defense attorneys defend injury and wrongful death cases.
Since 2003, Brett has exclusively represented injured people and families who have unnecessarily lost a loved one. He has experience with both routine cases and high-value complex cases culminating in trial. Brett focuses on injury and wrongful death law, specifically when caused by medical malpractice, unsafe premises such as businesses and homes, and motor vehicle crashes involving trucks, cars, and motorcycles. He also handles problems against insurance companies and pharmaceutical or medical device cases. Brett enjoys representing the little guy against big companies and the variety that makes every case so unique.
He has won several awards, including:
- 2015 Thomas Conway Award from the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association for his ability to zealously represent clients while remaining cordial to opposing counsel.

Family and friends are very important to Brett. When he isn’t working, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and three sons. As a graduate of the University of Missouri, he is also a Tiger fan!
